Pico Rivera In-Home Care: 24-Hour Staff vs. 24-Hour Personalized Care

laguna beachPut yourself in your elderly loved one’s shoes and imagine yourself living in an assisted living facility, long-term care facility or nursing home.  You get your three meals a day; you have a room and perhaps share a room with another senior; there’s a nurse or caregiver who makes her rounds to the different rooms facilities to take your vitals and check for your toileting needs.  You have access to 24-hour staff but do you feel like anyone really cares about you – and you alone?  Do you have a constant companion by your side who will take you out and help you stay connected with your friends and family?  Do you have someone who will respond to you immediately when you have a need, or do you have to wait on an overloaded, tired caregiver or nurse to finish taking care of someone else?  The lack of personalized, compassionate care in aging institutions is what drives many seniors to request live-in care, because they can receive the same minimum assistance and more while living comfortably in their own home.

Benefits of Personalized Elder Care at Home

The saying, “There’s no place like home,” applies to elder care just as much as any other area in life.  A-1 Home Care in Pico Rivera has an outstanding reputation for building a memorable life for seniors in their golden years while ensuring patient safety and preserving dignity.  Having a live-in caregiver for your elderly loved ones doesn’t just help them – it helps you too.  Although you may be able to assist with errands such as grocery shopping or making meals, you could avoid awkward moments when helping your parent take showers or use the restroom.  If you are not professionally trained in toileting and grooming assistance, your good intentions might make the situation worse.  A-1 Home Care’s 24-hour caregivers are certified, seasoned and sensitive.

Keep Your Eyes Healthy

Vision problem is a common problems among seniors.  It does not only affect their reading skills, but it increases their risk of additional injuries as well.  For example, my grandmother has had cataracts for a while, and we always make sure there are any hazards around her home that she could possibly trip over and fall.  It is known that falls is one of the leading causes of injuries among seniors.  When combining vision problems with weakened muscles and bone structures, decreased balance, and other ailments, it can be very dangerous for the elderly people.  As a result, it is always recommended for everyone – even if you think your vision is healthy- to get regular comprehensive dilated eye exams to catch eye diseases early.  In addition to health vision month in May, it is also ultraviolet awareness month, so it is also a good reminder for everyone to always protect your eyes from UV rays by wearing UV-rated sunglasses because it lead to vision problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration down the road.

Mardi Gras Event at Southland Care Center

A-1 Home Care does not simply want to serve the communities around us, but we want to build a great relationship with them.  We were fortunately enough to be invited to the wonderful Southland Care Center in Norwalk yesterday, and the kind activity director Jovy allowed us to hold a Mardi Gras event where participants can create their own Mardi Gras masks. Seniors such as Christine and Alphie had a lot of fun, mingling with us and the staff, and sharing about their lovely designs on their masks.

Overall, we feel that as long as we can bring a smile on the senior’s faces, then our mission was accomplished.  A-1 Home Care would like to thank Jovy for inviting us over for an afternoon with the seniors, and we extremely fortunate to be invited back for future events!  If you or you know someone who is at the Southland Care Center, remind them to look for future events from A-1 home Care!

Parkinson’s Care in Pico Rivera

a-1 home care temple city cancer careTraditionally speaking, there has been no known cause for Parkinson’s Disease, which is linked to lack of dopamine-producing cells in the mid-region of the brain.  We know that dopamine is a neurotransmitter that carries messages from the brain to the muscle cells to make body movement possible.  Dopamine is also produced when an individual is eating or doing something that he enjoys.  When the brain stops producing dopamine for any reason, muscles start to deteriorate, and the individual experiences rigidity, slow movement, and an inability to voluntarily control muscles in his body.  We know that this happens when the brain stops producing dopamine, but why it stops producing dopamine might be explained by new research.

Family history may be a good predictor.  If you know that grandparents or ancestors on your father or mother’s side have suffered from Parkinson’s, now is the time to visit the doctor’s.  The good news is that the causal gene, which guarantees the onset of Parkinson’s, is extremely rare.  The other type of gene, called “associated genes,” increase the likelihood of getting the disease, but if you take proactive measures now to take care of your health, you may be able to slow the progression of Parkinson’s.

To decrease your chances of getting Parkinson’s, go on the Get-Happy Diet.  Eat plenty of fish, chicken and red meat.  Balance that out with fruits like bananas, strawberries and blueberries.  Elevate your mood by doing something you enjoy.  Exercising, arts and crafts and other creative activities are healthy ways of increasing dopamine in your system.

Companionship is important too.  Activities are not as enjoyable when you do it alone, so why not spend time with someone who enjoys the same things you do!  If you live far away from family, it’s important to have a companion or caregiver by your side to sustain the human connection, especially as you get older.  Even if you live next door to your kin, they may be too busy taking care of their own lives to give you the undivided attention you need.

A-1 Home Care is the trusted source of quality Parkinson’s Care for many reasons.  Families have turned to A-1 Home Care for over 20 years because of the skilled, reliable care of their in-home health professionals.  If you need 24-hour live-in care or hourly companionship services, we’re here for you!  You can have affordable in-home care tomorrow by asking for a free assessment today!
