Stick to Your Work Outs for Elders & Seniors in Pico Rivera

Eating healthy and working out are the most important elements to maintaining a healthy lifestyle all around from mentally, physically, and even spiritually. It is important that we monitor what we eat and drink, as well as do on our downtime when not in school or work. Say, for example, sitting on the couch and watching TV all day is sometimes much needed–just not every day.

As we get older too, and due to different injuries, diseases, and illnesses, we are often limited to a majority of work outs in order to prevent further damage to the physical and chronic state. Our senior patients here at A-1 Home Care are often finding different ways to participate and maintain a frequent work out. Some favorable and common work outs that we see as a trend with our patients are walking, stretching, yoga, and even golf. It all depends on what is best with our clients; often, our caregivers consult with a patient’s doctor to see what is the best work out for them.

Although, it is tough to keep up with a work out routine; however, our caregivers have been fortunate to find the best ways to assist their senior patient(s) with sticking to their work outs. They are (Active, 2017):

  • Keeping it simple by doing something that is enjoyable for the patient (as well as our caregivers, if you prefer companion services as well). We want our patients to have fun and to never feel obligated to do something that they do not want to.
  • Taking rest/days off because our bodies do need a break every now and then; and, usually, this includes the lounging around and watching TV part for most people.
  • Encouraging our seniors by many things, whether that is participating in work outs with them or with words to keep going and to never give up.

Signs of Burning Out for Pico Rivera Residents

The list is endless (Psychology Today, 2016):

As a caregiver, you do work longer hours and travel more than a majority of other jobs. Being a twenty-four hour caregiving agency, we not only want our seniors to be mentally and physically well and safe but our own caretakers as well. If you have experienced any of the symptoms in the list above, than it may be time to take a step back and learn the tools to cope and manage with burning out.

Some tips are (Psychology Today, 2016):

  • Saying “no.”
  • Make a list of what needs to be done.
  • Write words of encouragement next to each step of that list, incase you do not complete all of them that day. There is always tomorrow.
  • Take a break!
  • Break away from work for socializing activities–do not always make everything about work. It is OKAY to defocus.
  • Go for a run or walk–getting outdoors immediately reduces stress chemically.
  • Take a nap.
  • Attend a support group; you are not alone.

A-1 Home Care wants their caregivers to be in their best, tip-top shape and to never feel overwhelmed and consumed if they are forcing themselves to work while burnt out. Always self-check how you are doing not just physically, but mentally as well.
